Discover the New Ornetin UV Trap: Smarter, Safer, and More Selective
May 2025, Pau, France
We are proud to introduce the new Ornetin UV Trap — a refined, efficient, and sustainable tool for Asian hornet management. Whether you're a beekeeper, gardener, or simply trying to protect your outdoor spaces, Ornetin UV Trap offers a smarter way to manage Asian Hornets invasive species without harming other insects and pollinators we need to protect.
What's New?
UV-Reflective Technology
Ornetin UV Trap utilizes a specifically designed, reflective material, that increases its visibility to hornets by 80%, making it more attractive and easier to detect.
The visual technology used in Ornetin UV introduces a completely new approach to hornet control. It works by efficiently reflecting ambient light within the specific wavelength spectrum visible to hornets. This innovation opens new possibilities in selective and efficient trapping. Beyond classical bait-olfactory cues—visual attraction plays a critical role. Hornets have a far more developed visual system than humans and are particularly sensitive to the UV-A range. This ability, shaped by their evolution, helps them navigate and locate food sources. By targeting this sensitivity, Ornetin UV enhances its visibility and appeal to hornets.
Inspired by Biomimicry
Ornetin UV blends multiple shades of UV, Green, and Blue to mimic the visual signals of flowers and enhance its attractiveness.
Interchangeable Seasonal Nozzles
The new design includes specialized nozzles that allow for highly selective trapping, whether targeting queens or worker hornets.
Nozzles for Vespa orientalis
The original Ornetin trap was designed with a focus on Vespa velutina. With Ornetin UV, we’re expanding its scope to also target Vespa orientalis. Dedicated nozzles are included to address this species, which is becoming increasingly prevalent in southern European regions.
Universal Compatibility
Thanks to its innovative "magic thread", the trap is compatible with popular jars like Twist-Off and Le Parfait, making setup quick and hassle-free.
Selective Trapping with Front Plugs
The front plugs serve two functions: first, they are designed to prevent the trapping of Vespa germanica in spring—removing them opens two 5.5 mm slots that allow this species to escape; second, their green color combines together with the UV-reflective white and the blue nozzle to mimic floral patterns, enhancing the trap’s visual appeal to hornets.
Flexible Hanging Design
Ornetin UV can be hung in multiple positions, offering maximum flexibility for placement. This ensures optimal coverage and performance in any environment.
Eco-Friendly and Built to Last
Made from HDPE plastic, the trap is highly durable and resistant to environmental wear. It does not degrade or release harmful substances, making it a sustainable, long-lasting solution.
Made in France, Trusted and enhanced by the community
The new Ornetin UV Trap is proudly designed and manufactured in the Pyrenees by the BroodMinder Team — a testament to our commitment to quality and local craftsmanship. With 5 years of real-world experience and thousands of satisfied users across Europe, this version of the Ornetin Trap is the result of trusted extensive field testing and valuable community feedback.
Ornetin UV vs. Ornetin Classic – Key Differences
Compared to the original Ornetin trap, the new UV version offers a more selective and efficient design. It introduces a UV reflection system to attract hornets, includes specialized front and back openings specially designed to avoid capturing Vespa germanica queens, supports horizontal and vertical hanging, and is compatible with a wider range of jars. It remains just as eco-friendly and reusable, while enhancing performance and species protection.
How to Use the Ornetin UV Trap
- Attach the trap to a compatible jar.
- Add a few strands of straw inside.
- for trapping workers : pour 2 spoonfuls of feeding syrup
- for trapping queens : pour 50ml of liquid bait (red fruit syrup / white wine / beer)
- Hang the trap vertically or horizontally, depending on your space.
- Let the UV reflection and bait do the work.
- Once full, soak the trap in water for 6 hours, rinse and repeat.
