Why should you trap Asian hornets?

Asian hornets are a real threat to our biodiversity. By preying on insect and hunting mainly butterflies and bees, they exert a real pressure on our pollinators which, by domino effect, has repercussions on the entire ecosystem.

On the scale of a county, Asian hornets destroy an average of 60 tons of insects. To fight against this plague, insects, which were already not outdone by other threats, must adapt to this invasive species which, for the moment, has no predator or competitor to regulate it.

Good trapping must be Selective.

Trapping only Asian hornets, Ornetin has no liquid bath, and features large openings that allow any insects that enter to exit easily. With each use, we have confirmed 100% effectiveness with no collateral effects on other species.

Good trapping is also Distributed.

Spread out over the whole country, so it can be used by everyone. For this, ease of use and safety are essential. If you wanted to get rid of these Asian hornets and protect the bees, Ornetin is a sustainable and ecological solution!

Water-bottle traps catch more flies and butterflies than Asian Hornets.

Latest research with those traps, shows that in spring, the ratio is 250 insects killed for just one hornet hunted! It's all the fault of the liquid bath of beer and syrup at the bottom. All insects getting into it end up drowned.

Trapping yes, but make it properly!

When faced with the threat of an invasive species, trapping is clearly a solution. However, it is still necessary to trap properly. All traps are not equivalent. We should not, under the pretext of defending biodiversity, give it another blow.

Ornetin's Assets

Ornetin's Assets

Ornetin wraps in a hyper-simple design a highly performant trap like no other. Its efficiency stands on underlying mechanisms completely different from the more mainstream “bottle” traps.
Ornetin works dry, with no liquid bath. It also works horizontally and with a high exposition surface and multiple holes displaying what is inside. It is also an ultra-handy trap, easy to distribute in multiple locations. As for the bait, it is more than sober, no beer, no blackcurrant, only two spoons of syrup. And of course, it is 100% washable to be life-long efficient. You will keep it forever.

How does it work?

How does it work?

Pour two spoons of sugar syrup on an absorbent material like straw, cotton, or paper. This limited bait will attract the first two or three hornets. Those ones will then attract all their fellows by calling them through the multiple holes on the wide “display” surface.

You want to keep trapped hornets alive as long as possible to hold the trap attraction power. When your Ornetins are filled-up it’s time to harvest and empty the content. You can easily sink them into a bucket of water for a few hours. Then drain and clean them up. Bait and start again!

Ornetin total cost

By far, the lowest trapping cost!

Although it might be a little more expensive on purchase, Ornetin holds by far, the lowest operational cost.

Since the bait is only two spoons of sugar syrup weekly, the cost is minimum. No need for beer, nor wine or red fruits syrup and this makes a difference on costs.

  • After 5 months the overall cost is lower than other (non selective) traps.
  • After 12 months Ornetin makes it cheaper than the home made (non selective) water bottle trap!
