In short: The new Ornetin Muzzle Mini is a compact hive entrance protector designed specifically for 6-frame hives. It protects small colonies from yellow-legged hornets while allowing bees to fly freely and naturally.
Yellow-legged hornets are one of the biggest threats to honey bee colonies, especially small and developing colonies. At the entrance of hive nucs, Vespa velutina can create intense pressure by attacking bees, blocking normal flight activity, and causing stress that weakens the colony over time.
For 6-frame hives, this pressure can be especially damaging. Small colonies have fewer guard bees, limited defensive capacity, and less room for disruption during critical periods of development. That is why dedicated protection is essential.
Many beekeepers using the original Ornetin Muzzle for 10-frame hives shared the same feedback: smaller colonies and 6-frame nucleus hives also needed dedicated protection against yellow-legged hornets.
We had the same question arising in our own apiary, so it was clear that for 2026 we should launch a compact version designed specifically for 6-frame hives. That is how we designed Ornetin Muzzle Mini.

The Ornetin Muzzle Mini features 5 mm laser-cut entrances, designed to prevent hornet intrusion while maintaining easy access for bees.
This helps reduce direct attacks at the hive entrance and lowers stress on guard bees, giving small colonies a better chance to continue developing without constant pressure from predators.
