Ornetin - Yellow Legged (Asian) Hornet Trap
This trap is designed as a lid that screws onto Ball Wide Mouth Half-Gallon 32oz and 64oz Glass Mason Jars. These jars are sold at local supermarkets like Walmart, Target, Menards, Kroger, and Ace.
It's a cute, clean design that is infinitely reusable with no waste. To prime the trap, place a strand of straw in the bottom and pour two spoonfuls of feeding syrup over it. The hornets will smell it and enter the trap. Once inside, they will call all their mates.
Works for all kinds of hornets :
- Vespa Crabro (European hornet)
- Vespa Velutina (Yellow legged)
- Vespa Orientalis
Once the traps are filled up with hornets, simply dip them into a bucket of water and let them soak for 6 hours. Then drain, unscrew, empty and clean the jars and start again.
You can order this trap WITHOUT JAR as SINGLE, PACK 3 or PACK 6 , but also as SINGLE+JAR (see options above).
This trap is the result of three years of extensive trapping experience in Europe (France) against Vespa velutina, continuously refined through field testing and improvement.

Maintenance:
Assembly & Installation
This product comes flat-packed
and requires assembly by the user.
Estimated build time: 10 minutes
Includes all screws and instructions.
Once assembled, mount the muzzle at your hive entrance with the provided
screws. Bees will quickly adapt to the new structure.
Installation
We’ve gone to great lengths to make installation fast and effortless — a single screw holds everything securely in place.
The installation typically ends in June when worker hornets start to be present in the apiary.
Place it in the morning to help forager bees get used to it on their first flight and avoid orientation issues when they're back. Bees may take a few hours to get used to their new king-size entry. Sometimes, bees will leave debris or dead bees on the muzzle bottom board. You can easily remove them by just pulling a bit up the muzzle and "vibrating" it. Debris should fall easily. Remove it by the end of November unless you want to keep a warmer hive entrance over the winter. You can paint the wooden parts if you wish.
Late Summer and Autumn – Peak Worker Attacks
Keep the muzzle in place throughout the season. During this period, hornet attacks intensify. The Ornetin Muzzle helps reduce
direct access to the hive entrance while giving foragers a safe landing zone.
General Tips
- Check the panel regularly for debris
- Clean with water if needed
- Do not apply chemicals or paint
Bees may take 1–2 days to fully adapt to the new entrance structure
