This spring, we had the opportunity to see Mrs. Velutina choose her headquarters among ours.
We could have dealt with it quickly, but we thought this option wouldn’t teach us much. On the contrary, keeping her alive was an exceptional opportunity to track her development and understand her first steps, as well as her strengths and weaknesses. So yes, it was fortunate to see her settle nearby.
We set up a camera and recorded all her movements from her very first hours and over the following 53 days.
Regardless of what one may think about this invasive species, it’s hard not to admire the abilities nature has bestowed upon it. When observed with the naked eye, many details escape us, but by compiling the more than 20,000 images that were taken, she reveals herself, thus unveiling the magnitude of the colossal work that is hers
