How Ornetin Works
The Ornetin trap is an environmentally-friendly solution for combating Asian hornets. Its selective, bait-free design reduces the accidental capture of other insects. Simply screwed onto a jar, this modern homemade hornet trap is an easy, economical option for managing Asian hornet populations while preserving biodiversity.
Ornetin: making an Asian hornet trap has never been so easy
The Ornetin trap far surpasses traditional methods such as the bottle trap or the “traditional” homemade hornet trap.
Traditional traps, such as the hornet bottle trap requiring a bait such as beer, pose several problems: they often attract other insects, including those beneficial to the ecosystem, thus disrupting local biodiversity.
These traps require constant monitoring and maintenance, and their effectiveness diminishes very quickly, necessitating frequent replacement of the bait.
As you can see, unlike bottled hornet traps and other conventional alternatives, which are often ineffective and non-selective, Ornetin is a hornet trap without specific bait that attracts and blocks only Asian hornets!
What to put in a hornet trap?
With Ornetin, nothing! Unlike the bottle or cork hornet trap, which usually works with beer or syrup, Ornetin works mainly dry outside spring, avoiding the use of liquid attractants that might attract other insects. The trap’s wide openings allow non-target insects to escape, reducing unwanted captures. This design not only saves you money, it also takes the headache out of setting a successful trap.
The Ornetin trap retains only Asian hornets, reducing unwanted captures of other beneficial insects. Its design ensures superior efficiency and long-lasting reusability.
Set-up is simple: place two spoonfuls of beet or berry syrup on an absorbent material such as straw or cotton, and position the trap in a strategic location.
We recommend checking and emptying the trap every week. Captured hornets should be immersed in water for six hours before cleaning and rebaiting the trap.
Yes, the Ornetin trap operates mainly in the dry outside spring. During the spring, it may need to be adjusted to maximize its effectiveness.
Thanks to its large openings, the trap allows non-target insects to escape, minimizing the impact on local biodiversity.
Yes, the Ornetin trap is designed to be reused. After each capture cycle, simply clean and re-bait for use again.
Homemade and bottle traps often attract other insects without being effective, and require constant maintenance. Ornetin offers a targeted, easy-to-maintain, environmentally-friendly solution, with proven effectiveness against Asian hornets.
We chose to use Le Parfait jars rather than TO82 “honey” jars for several reasons. The superior glass quality of Le Parfait jars offers enhanced safety, and their wide, gutless opening allows for more efficient cleaning after each use. Above all, their large 100 mm opening provides a much larger display surface (+48%), making them much more attractive and therefore more effective.
You can choose to order Ornetin with or without a jar. When you place your order, you’ll find options to buy them individually, in packs of 3 or 6. If you have a specific need, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
